We are committed to behaving in an ethical and responsible way that contributes to the wellbeing of society at large.  Apart from the fact that many of our businesses - in healthcare, fitness and pest control, for example - promote the health of the community, we also undertake programmes pro bono.

In December 2011, the Ministry of Health in the UAE, represented by the Sharjah based Blood Transfusion and Research Center, and Bin Sina Pharmacy Group, the leading pharmacy chain in the UAE, launched a nation-wide campaign to promote blood donation.

Running over a period of three weeks, the initiative had two main purposes, said Dr. Amin Al Amiri, of the UAE Ministry of Health: "First, to raise awareness of blood donation benefits to both the donor and recipient, and second, to urge the UAE community to participate in such campaigns."

The campaign, supported by radio and outdoor advertising, and in-store displays, targeted visitors to Deira City Centre, Mirdif City Centre and Dubai Festival Centre. The three malls allocated specialized booths for blood donation, operated by specialists from the Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Centre, providing a world-class service with very stringent health measures.

Dr. Saleema Shurrab, General Manager of Bin Sina Pharmacy Group in the UAE, said: "Choosing Bin Sina for this campaign clearly indicates the MoH's trust in us. As well as providing blood for transfusions, this campaign contributes to the prevention of many diseases among donors, such as heart disease and brain stroke, as it helps in activating the bone marrow to produce new blood cells for the people who participate in it."

All of GLIS's business activities promote green living and an eco-friendly approach to the environment, as a matter of course.  As a part of this approach, for the last several years, GLIS has participated in Dubai Municipality's activities during the annual UAE Plantation Weeks, when we contribute plants, and demonstrate to the public how best to plant them.

Members of the Life Fitness team participate in the GAS Rugby Team, whose purpose is to raise funds for children's charities worldwide. Managed by South African World Rugby Cup star, Chester Williams, the team's fund-raising efforts support "Pirates", the UAE's first Surf and Sea Rescue team. The team competed in 2011's Dubai Rugby 7s before crowds of 30,000 spectators.

Based at Dubai's popular Umm Suqueim kite surfing beach, Pirates, a non-profit organization, gives free adventure and fitness training to children with diabetes and obesity. Pirates also conducts training and education in sea rescue, first aid, CPR, marine life and conservation.

As part of its sponsorship of the magazine ExpatWoman, each year Pestfree participates in its annual event, this year called New Year, New You! From our own booth at the event, which attracts attendees from across the UAE, we distribute informative and entertaining booklets for adults and children, raising awareness of the problems of household pests, and the means to reduce them.
